Driver Education
Report
We provide Drivers Education for teenagers under the age of 18 at our classroom on the west side of Farmers Lane, across from Montgomery Village. Each class is 4 days, from 8:30am to 4:00pm. Makeup days are available for students who cannot complete the course due to illness, or a family emergency, but if a class is full, a return student may have to wait for a class in which a seat is available. Check your school, work, vacation and personal appointment calendars before enrolling.
Brush-ups
Report
Drivers who must take a DMV drive test to renew a license, or avoid a suspension, may be uncertain of their skills and what will be required during the driving exam. A brush-up lesson or evaluation may be helpful to restore confidence, minimize anxiety and improve skills. The better prepared you are the less nervous you will feel. We want to help, and that includes being straight forward about your current driving skills and safety.
People
Leslie Allyn
Owner & Behind-the-wheel Instructor
I began teaching Driver Education and Driver Training for other driving schools in 1993. I felt there was a lack of quality instruction, integrity, and service in the industry, so I opened Roadrunner Driving School in 1997. My background includes traffic accident investigation at Santa Rosa Police Department and completion of Defensive Driving and Emergency Vehicle Operations Courses at the California Highway Patrol Academy. I drove a tractor trailer for several years making deliveries between San Jose and Fort Bragg, and I drove a school bus in Sonoma County for 4 years. When I was sixteen, and newly licensed, I often hauled several horses to Annadel State Park or Point Reyes National Seashore to ride for the day. A couple of horses in a trailer behind you will teach you to drive safely up and down hills, on winding roads, on the freeway and at night.
Brad Cox
Behind-the-wheel Instructor
Brad has been teaching with Roadrunner for over eleven years. He is a very professional, thorough and conscientious instructor. He is also an accomplished musician. Brad performs with several bands, gives private drum lessons, and teaches music to elementary school children. He relaxes by playing a wicked game of ice hockey.
Leonard Cohen
Driver Education Classroom Instructor
Mr. Cohen is a retired public school teacher with over 30 years of experience teaching physical education and driver education. His class is very structured, and he follows a DMV-approved driver education lesson plan. Students will be well prepared to pass their DMV written test. Do Not Be Late for Class! In his spare time, Mr. Cohen loves to play golf and paint. Recently, he has exhibited a delightful talent for creating the most endearing greeting cards! Although Mr. Cohen considers himself retired, we are thrilled to have him as a member of our part time staff.

My instructor and owner of road runner driving school Leslie Ann, is very experienced. She was very clear and gave me many good tips on the road, one of them being to always look over your shoulder and check your mirror for a lane change. I recommend her highly for any new drivers looking for an excellent instructor.

My grandsons appointment was at 10:30 and at 10:25 we were outside a closed office. We called the number posted several times, but got only a recording. I finally left a message stating that we were outside, had arrived on time and the school better not charge our card as a no show. Some minutes later the instructor, Leslie, calls my grandson and explains that her roommate had Covid, but since she was vaccinated did he want to go forward with the lesson?
We declined. Later this evening, Leslie calls me to tell me I was unkind. I pointed out to her how unprofessional it was for her to suggest going forward with the lesson as her being vaccinated is no shield from transmitting or contracting the virus. After going back and forth with Leslie insisting that she was professional, I said goodnight and hung up.
She then calls my grandson's phone and starts berating me to him. He told her he was not going to listen to her talk about his grandmother like that and handed the phone to his mother. Leslie refused to identify herself to his parent and finally hung up on his mother. Totally unprofessional and slightly demented behavior. Don't get in the car with this one!

I had Leslie as my driving instructor, and I am so thankful that she was. She is extremely patient and devoted to her students when teaching the rules of driving, both on and off the road. She is very considerate and understanding when mistakes are made and is overall an amazing driving instructor. I strongly suggest going here if you want to feel safe on the road! I also got a 100% on my behind the wheel test! Thank you Leslie!

Everything was perfect! Quality of business was outstanding! It starts with an ideal notice of the instructor before meeting with them in every lesson, to the cleanliness and the beginner-friendly aspect of the car! For the three 2 hour lessons, every penny was worth it. Leslie was my instructor throughout my lessons and she was spectacular! If I could give more stars, I'd definitely give more.

Leslie was nice to me until I wasn't getting her instructions. I understood her frustration, but as someone being paid to teach a child she knew had never driven before, she had no right to speak to me the way she did. She immediately began telling me not to rely on her help even though we were only a few minutes in. I butchered a turn (which was my fault) and she told me to try.
When I told her I was trying my hardest, she said "Are you really?" in an unmistakably rude tone. So I would say if you're the kind of person to illegally drive before your first lesson, Roadrunner will be fine. However, if you are an ACTUAL beginner, do not go here. She also told me I "drove like a drunk driver". Bottom line: despite me telling her I had never driven before, it seemed very much expected I already be a good driver. Especially considering although I clearly was not a natural, she continued to have me drive in a neighborhood I wasn't familiar with up and down steep hills.

Leslie is very rude and unprofessional. I never write negative reviews, but I've never had anyone talk to me the way Leslie did. When I politely told her that my son would complete his driver training at a different driving school, she threw up her hands and yelled, "I'm the best driving school in town!" The entire interaction was unbelievable. Aside from her lack of communication skills, she picked my son up an hour late for his appointment.

After an awkward and uncomfortable experience for my daughter with behind the wheel driver training at another local school, we were thrilled to find Leslie and Roadrunner. What an amazing difference! They genuinely care about what they do and my daughter learned SO much more in 2 hours with them than the other school, without going to drive-through fast food to feed the instructor and experiencing other inappropriate behavior. Be careful who you choose for behind the wheel training, especially if you have a daughter.

My son took an online driver's education class and then took 3 driving lessons from Brad at Roadrunner. Brad was extremely knowledgeable, professional and patient. He prepared my son very well for his road test and instilled habits in him that made him a very good and safe driver. I will now enroll my younger son in Roadrunner's driver's ed class and will have him take his lessons from Brad as well.
My friend's son had an instructor from another school that had the student run errands for him and had other students in the car at the same time. Choose your driving instructor wisely.

I have to wonder about at least one of the reviews from an out of town reviewer. I enrolled my daughter at John's driving school for their classroom portion and it was terrible: basically glorified babysitting. But we tried a behind the wheel with them and it still was not satisfactory, so we did the second behind the wheel driving class with Roadrunner and the difference was dramatic.
My daughter said the instructor was much more professional, she learned much more and felt much more confident than she did with John's. For her final behind the wheel session, the instructor said she would prepare her for the behind the wheel test by actually running her through like a driving examiner at the DMV. Not the actual drive, but similar so she could be prepared.
