The State of California and the Department of Motor Vehicles require that anyone under the age of 18 who would like to obtain a driver's license be required to take a special training course. This course is called Driver's Education. It is given in two parts. The first part is the online portion, which is a required 30-hour class. The second part is behind-the-wheel training, which includes six hours of instruction with a professional driving instructor given in two-hour increments. This specialized course can only be offered by DMV licensed driving schools or secondary schools that have a qualified curriculum and certified teachers.

Report
California state law requires that all teenagers under 17 1/2 must take 6 hours of behind-the-wheel professional driver training. The behind the wheel course must be taken at a Department of Motor Vehicles licensed driving school. Upon completion of the course, the student driver will receive certification (OL 238) which will enable him/her to take the actual behind the wheel driving test.

Jason's review is legitimate! Vincent Lee, changed his name. Now, he goes by the name Richard Ly. Do not get him whatever you do. Also, he might change his name again since he possibly could be reading this right now. Richard looks like an old wasian with an almost balded head. He always wear aviators and has a fat stomach. He yelled at me, hit me one time, and screamed after he made a promise with me that he shouldn't yell.
He also keeps saying I'm wrong, that he doesnt want to teach me anymore. Another thing is he purposely acts nice in the first two sessions but gets more mean as you go. So 0 stars. I dislike his service. My cousin had the same issue as Jason; he felt uncomfortable and had to endure 10 or more hours with him. You might assume that female customers have sensitivity or something but my cousin is male and he also felt the same way. Again, 0 stars. Everything about him will mess with your mental state.

Prior to taking lessons at this driving school, I took about six lessons with another instructor closer to where I live (Lincoln Heights) and it was a terrible experience. The instructor didn't give me enough info when it came to certain situations and he always kept telling me to just do as I was told. In addition, I failed my behind the wheel test twice at the Lincoln Park DMV (they have a reputation of failing a lot of applicants) because I'm a very anxious driver and my instructor didn't help with the constant screaming and the constant "Why are you so nervous?
This is easy!" taunting. The whole experience turned me off from driving for well over a year. I had retaken the written test and got my permit four months after but left it there to collect dust because I just DREADED driving. It wasn't until two months before the expiration of my permit that I decided to schedule three lessons with this driving school.
The rates were twenty dollars cheaper per lesson comparing to the last school so I thought "Why not?" I had Vincent as an instructor and he was almost a breath of fresh air. He was patient, helped me quickly rebuild my driving confidence and gave me a ton of helpful info that'll stick with me for a lifetime. His accent is a little more on the thicker side so be mindful of the fact that you do have to listen carefully.
My behind the wheel test was at the El Monte DMV on the exact same day my permit was supposed to expire and I successfully passed it! The minus one star is for the car as it's a little smelly. Also, scheduling lesson times can be a tad troublesome as they may not have a set time for you right away. Vincent also sometimes runs about half an hour late.
There was an instance where he even ran nearly an hour late so it's quite inconvenient because you're forced to plan around his schedule. Not really cool. However, despite all of that, I'm glad I'm finally licensed and I wanna give credit to this school for making that happen.

I signed up my son for his first 2-hour driving lesson with this instructor Vincent. My son couldn't understand him most of the time. He keeps saying whatever I said is always right. He also cut his time short to only 1.5 hours. It is mandatory from DMV sign up your teenager driver under 18 for 6 hours of driving. My son begged me don't go back to him. I am trying to talk to DMV how I can complain about this company and the instructor. Don't go for the cheapest rate. Big mistake!

I called yesterday to set up a 9 a.m.lesson, instructor Tony T. Sent me Text to confirm 9 a.m. pick up time at 730a.m. He showed up a little before 9 a.m.and took me for a 2-hour Lesson. All of his instructions were Very Clear. I was a Very satisfied Customer of VK Driving school. The car we drove was a PRIUS, i have never driven a Hybrid before, it was Clean and Comfortable. Highly recommend, V K Driving!

The worst instructor teacher ever. I never heard of guardian not allow to be in the passenger sit and watch and he claims that it's illegal. Not only that, he violates the invation of privacy. If he is late, please be on time and do not bring another student to the next lesson. The other students has no right to know where I live and he violates and leak my confidential information, especially my address to the others hand. It's unreasonable to allow other people knows where I live. And I have the right and pursue take legal action to this instructor and this company.

I created a yelp just for this person. To clarify, the other person who gave the review is 100% correct. Unprofessional, hours late, and puts his hands on you. I've actually been scratched a few times by him for making a mistake. Aside from that he does throw tantrums. So apparently, this guy speaks Chinese, Vietnamese, and English. So he should be good then right? Wrong.
I barely understood half of the things he's saying because of his English. First day I'm gonna meet him, he said he'll be there at 1. Turns out I waited almost 2 hours for him and this tardiness continued every time I was going to drive. He also charges an outrageous price of 600 dollars! I have no idea why my mother chose himz. Vincent Lee is truly a name you cannot forget. Please go somewhere else for driving lessons unless you can understand his everything he says and don't mind being grabbed a lot.

Probably the most unprofessional instructor ever. first of all he is not very clear in his instructions and bitches at you if you didn't understand his mumble. at time he would throw a tantrum and yell very condescending insults at you. i had a duo lesson with another driver and he would actually put his hands on us like wtf. scheduling an appointment was a headache, he was rarely on time (hours late actually) and sometimes would call at the last minute to try to cancel and reschedule--like my life revolved around waiting for an appointment with him. overall extremely not recommended in any case. p.s. judging from the previous review, instructors from here suck. idk peter wong but i'll forever remember Vincent Lee.
