First driving lessons begin in residential or low traffic areas, where the instructor will explain the basic car maneuvers: how to make accurate turns, how to make a smooth transition from the gas pedal to the brake and vice-versa, coming to a full stop at a stop sign, keeping a safe following distance, making a left turn on a two-way road, recognizing and understanding street signs, navigating around pedestrians, animals, bikers, and runners.
