Classroom setting was self-paced with an instructor available to answer questions if any. The sooner you get through classroom, the better. Once you get your permit and can start driving, you aren't driving for 10 hours. You show up for school at 7am and wait around with lots of others for your turn to drive. It can be frustrating because it sets you back on how long you anticipate being in school before taking your test.
I thought I would be in school January - February and get my license the first of March. I didn't get it until April because of the wait time each day for actual driving. Take advantage of your wait time by partnering up with someone to do your walk-thrus and checklists. Be prepared to talk through your actions while driving for the instructor as well. Overall, good experience and appreciate the support staff that reached out to help find jobs, notify me of job fairs, and recruitment opportunities. - Donovan Bonde

I must admit this school was not my first choice. Mainly off of first impression with front receptionist. But After not having a choice based on schedule/availability, I enrolled. Immediately after first day and meeting our in class instructor I was actually pleased with how receptive he was with our questions and took the time to explain. Soon after going out and beginning range and getting to meet the other instructors it was even better.
If you ain't ready to be a trucker and endure the challenges and demeanor then don't enroll. But if your thick skinned and can have some fun this is the place. Most importantly, I appreciate One of the instructors for going out of their way to test me. I was leaving the state that weekend and getting a test scheduled was beginning to be near impossible but Paul stepped in made sure I was able to test prior to leaving.
Most importantly I made good friends along the way. From all walks of life.thx to all instructors, but most importantly thx to Ieshia for keeping it real and making it fun and thx to Paul for helping me meet the deadline (HOOAH)

This school is just like life. You get outta it as much as you put in. No phones on the Range means your serious about LEARNING. Pay attention, study, and BE THERE. EXCELLENT INSTRUCTORS are there to help you. Professional Drivers are in need. Being professional minded and driving a 80,000 lb vehicle is very serious business. Whining and complaining about your journey at this wonderful school is on you. You'll eventually buckle-down and get your CDL. Then us professional Drivers gotta deal with your ATTITUDES on the road.

Where to start first of all the instructors are good people, but it is clear they are not treated well at the school by the owners. I have seen three instructors walk off the job because of the lack of organization. There can be at times a ratio of 20-40 students per 1 instructor making it very difficult for actual hands on time with the maneuvers.
This training is a skill set which requires repeated maneuvers to learn proven facts. Next lightning at night is a major issue the trees and trucks block what little light there is and it is obvious that this has been an issue before since they have broken portable lights sitting in the range. The cones and lines on the range are black and very difficult to see during the day and impossible at night.
After filling several complaints and never received and reply to my concerns I reported it to Maricopa workforce they too have received several complaints about this school. We were told observing will teach you. Not when you are staring for 8 hours a day at others whom also have no idea what they are doing and only have 10 minutes out of 8 hours a day to have hands on practice.
As for the lights Jason's response was well in the real world you will have to drive at night. Really Jason! We are in a learning environment we need to be able to see what we need to learn so when we do get out into the real world we know how to do certain things. When we are told back up till the tires near the line but we can't see a line wth. And stop at the black dirty cone.
This is a accident waiting to happen. The school focuses more on new students every Monday instead of cutting down the ratio of students to instructors because of one thing $$$$$. Once you are in and they have the $$$ your concerns do not matter. Several students are not happy. We now have to pay additional money for adequate training at another school that offers one on one. My recommendation is CDL trucking on 24th Ave.

I was in the 3 week full time course. There are a number of serious problems with this school and the "education" they provide. Extreme disorganization is rampant, and it shows in every aspect. The student to instructor ratios are terrible. Often we had 20+ students to one instructor on the range. Because of this, in an eight hour day, you are lucky to get 15 minutes behind the wheel.
The rest of the time is idle. You have to absolutely beg to get time on the road, as they usually are only doing 4 students at a time (lack of qualified instructors). Building is dingy and often extremely dirty. Glad I wasn't in the classroom session. Trucks are barely functional, can't get into gear, leak air, etc. Trucks also very dirty. Have to beg for a test date.
It took me multiple texts, calls, and in-person visits to the main coordinator to be scheduled for a test. Bottom line: If you at all value your time, dignity, and knowledge, go ANYWHERE else.

Did the part time class for 8 weeks. Tested on my 8th week, can't beat that. As for the INSTRUCTORS, there they are phenomenal. Ally in the classroom will answer any questions you have. As for the range I cannot say enough positive things about Cody, Jesus and Ann. They are very helpful and knowledgeable both on the range and on the road. They will all take the time to help you if you do not understand things. Bryan, is an amazing manager and is very approachable and knowledgeable as well. Thank you Mike, the state tester for making the test not stressful.

Instructors were nice but not enough time in the truck. Luckily I'm a fast learner and got it down in 3 months doing only weekends, sad to see the people struggling and being there longer than I was. I also recommend getting your permit on your own, classroom didn't teach me anything, I learned more from the CDL PREP app. It will save you money by getting it on your own.

I was very pleased with the quality of instruction at Phoenix Truck Driving Institute. Q, Dwight, Demetrius, Iesha "Queen of all she sees", Paul and soo many more were great at at instilling a sense of care and responsibility for what you are operating. You don't get much time in the truck as you want but I found that the time watching others was just as useful. Dawn the employment guru was great at helping me and others to find the right job for what we need to live a life with time for family. The graduating with no restrictions and able to use manual transmissions is a huge advantage. Thank you. P.
